Documents from the Hearing on “Online Platforms and Market Power: Examining the Dominance of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google”

On July 29, 2020, the U.S. House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee held a hearing titled, “Online Platforms and Market Power, Part 6: Examining the Dominance of Amazon, Facebook, Google and Apple.” In the hearing, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Tim Cook, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook faced questions about whether their company’s practices created an anti-competitive environment.

Zuckerberg’s testimony is archived here (video/transcript), but the Judiciary Committee also released numerous relevant documents uncovered during their investigation of these companies.

We have archived the documents that include direct correspondence from Mark Zuckerberg, and converted the PDFs to be more searchable for our users:

Infrastructure Migration Completed

We’re excited to share that we recently completed a migration of the back-end infrastructure for The Zuckerberg Files from UW-Milwaukee to Marquette University’s digital Institutional Repository. The archive remains on the “Digital Commons Network” powered by bepress, but now sits within the purview of the great team at Raynor Memorial Libraries.

User access accounts should have migrated without any hiccups, but please let us know if you experience access issues. Previous URLs to individual items on the legacy UW-Milwaukee archive should eventually redirect to the new repository, but we can’t guarantee that yet.

And many thanks to the Digital Commons group at UW-Milwaukee for assisting with hosting The Zuckerberg Files over the past 7 years!

Spring 2020 Updates, and Migration Update

We’ve been busy the last few months updating missing 2019 and 2020 content. We’ve recently uploaded over 50 new transcript files, along with 15 new videos, which brings us up-to-date through March 3, 2020. These additions include numerous Facebook posts, Zuckerberg’s recent Financial Times editorial suggesting big tech needs more regulation, as well as transcripts with corresponding videos from appearances at the Silicon Slopes event, the Munich Security Conference, and appearances last fall on NBC and CBS news programs.

We will be pausing new updates for a few weeks while we migrate the archive from UW-Milwaukee to Marquette University. We’ll send an update once that is completed.

Recent 2019 appearances and chats added

We’ve been busying adding some of the more recent Mark Zuckerberg posts, editorials, and appearances, including his new “Tech & Society” conversations on the future of technology and society. Details and links below.

Update: 2019 file uploads and legacy platform

We have two important updates.

First, we’re happy to share that a few hundred more records have been uploaded including most 2019 content. We now have nearly 1,000 transcript records and nearly 250 video files.

Second, while we recently announced a migration to a new platform, we have been experiencing some stability issues and also remain unhappy with the search functionality. To ensure users have the best experience accessing content, we are reverting to the legacy archive platform hosted at UW-Milwaukee. All records have been updated on that site and it will be the primary archive moving forward.

User accounts should be active on that platform. Please contact us with any issues obtaining access. Sorry for any inconveninece.
