Various Updates to the Archive in 2021

We’ve been busy in 2021 keeping The Zuckerberg Files updated with the latest Zuckerberg posts and appearances. He’s made dozens of posts to his Facebook page this year — many of which have a more personal touch, including some of the first posts with his kids (here and here, for example). All of these are in the archive.

Other updates include:

  • Zuckerberg joined Jack Dorsey, and Sundar Pichai in testimony before the U.S. House Hearing on “Disinformation Nation: Social Media’s Role in Promoting Extremism and Misinformation” in March 2021 (transcript/video)
  • Zuckerberg has been active in the Facebook “Dogspotting Society” group, including posts and photos about his dog Beast (here and here)
  • Zuckerberg announced his plans to develop the Facebook Metaverse during an interview with Casey Newton (transcript/audio)
  • Zuckerberg launched the virtual Horizon Workrooms during an interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning (transcript/video), where he also fielded questions about COVID misinformation on Facebook (transcript/video) (transcript/video)

We’re also working on a solution to start archiving photos Zuckerberg posts to his Facebook and Instagram accounts. More on that soon…

Documents from the Hearing on “Online Platforms and Market Power: Examining the Dominance of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google”

On July 29, 2020, the U.S. House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee held a hearing titled, “Online Platforms and Market Power, Part 6: Examining the Dominance of Amazon, Facebook, Google and Apple.” In the hearing, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Tim Cook, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook faced questions about whether their company’s practices created an anti-competitive environment.

Zuckerberg’s testimony is archived here (video/transcript), but the Judiciary Committee also released numerous relevant documents uncovered during their investigation of these companies.

We have archived the documents that include direct correspondence from Mark Zuckerberg, and converted the PDFs to be more searchable for our users:

Infrastructure Migration Completed

We’re excited to share that we recently completed a migration of the back-end infrastructure for The Zuckerberg Files from UW-Milwaukee to Marquette University’s digital Institutional Repository. The archive remains on the “Digital Commons Network” powered by bepress, but now sits within the purview of the great team at Raynor Memorial Libraries.

User access accounts should have migrated without any hiccups, but please let us know if you experience access issues. Previous URLs to individual items on the legacy UW-Milwaukee archive should eventually redirect to the new repository, but we can’t guarantee that yet.

And many thanks to the Digital Commons group at UW-Milwaukee for assisting with hosting The Zuckerberg Files over the past 7 years!

Spring 2020 Updates, and Migration Update

We’ve been busy the last few months updating missing 2019 and 2020 content. We’ve recently uploaded over 50 new transcript files, along with 15 new videos, which brings us up-to-date through March 3, 2020. These additions include numerous Facebook posts, Zuckerberg’s recent Financial Times editorial suggesting big tech needs more regulation, as well as transcripts with corresponding videos from appearances at the Silicon Slopes event, the Munich Security Conference, and appearances last fall on NBC and CBS news programs.

We will be pausing new updates for a few weeks while we migrate the archive from UW-Milwaukee to Marquette University. We’ll send an update once that is completed.
